Camper Van Beethoven - Key Lime Pie (1989)

Camper Van Beethoven, a California group active mainly throughout the '80s, were one of the lesser-known forerunners of the alternative rock movement, playing a brew of punk, folk, country, world music, jangle pop, ska, psychedelia, and pretty much whatever else you can think of; this band experimented almost non-stop with their sound, and ended up far-removed from even the 'typical' alt rock sound of the period, which is what makes them so important, and also what makes them so criminally overlooked; this album was the last released on their original run (they've since reunited), and it was their most financially - if not critically - successful album, and therefore their most recognizable and a great place to start; whatever your musical tastes, this is a band you need to know

Another Sunny Day - London Weekend (1992)

I uploaded this forever ago and forgot to post it; Another Sunny Day is a seminal twee/jangle pop act of the 80s-90s, part of the Sarah Records roster, what this is is a lot of songs about love and romance and desperation, with odd cheeriness and sentimentality, considering the often disturbing subject matter ("if I don't see you soon / I'm going to kill myself"); tongue-in-cheek, perhaps, but that doesn't mean there isn't some truth down there somewehre

Sugarplum Fairies - Chinese Leftovers (2009)

Male/female duo from LA who make shoegazey dream pop, and I would say there are also some influences of old jangle pop stuff here; lately I've been using this album to chillax (yeah) in the late hours of the night (or early hours of the morning, technically) while I'm busy avoiding sleep for no good reason, perhaps some of you can put it to the same use

Harvey Williams - Rebellion (1994)

Short, quiet, and relaxing EP; issued on Sarah Records, this release is not the upbeat and happy kind of music that the word 'twee' tends to imply, but rather it's a touching, piano-driven contemplation of the world that is both melancholic and hopeful

The La's - The La's (1990)

First and only release by this upbeat Liverpool-based pop/alt rock band, most people think of them as a one-hit-wonder (the hit being "There She Goes", yeah, this is that band), but as far as I'm concerned this is an essential album for anyone who enjoys catchy hooks and memorable melodies (which is everyone, you pretentious fucks)

East River Pipe - What Are You On? (2006)

Chilled out and melancholic twee album, some of the songs remind me of Eels, especially the vocals

The Vaselines - The Way of the Vaselines (1992)

Comp with pretty much everything ever recorded by the seminal twee/indie rock group, you should have this already but if you don't I promise not to tell the dude at your local record store because he probably wouldn't let you back in
